The intake process typically spans the first 3–4 sessions, allowing us to establish a thorough understanding and begin treatment planning.
Adults: We use these sessions to fully explore your background, current challenges, and goals.
Minors: The process begins with one full session with the parents, followed by 1–2 sessions with the child. By the fourth session, we collaborate to create a comprehensive treatment plan with short- and long-term goals.
My approach is rooted in a holistic understanding of your challenges, using comprehensive bio-psycho-social conceptualization models.
I integrate objective data to ensure the most effective treatment. I use evidence-based measurement instruments for both broad screening and specialized assessment (e.g., attention, executive functioning) and use these tools to track progress and outcomes throughout treatment. For minors, I frequently collect collateral data through teacher observations (questionnaires or interviews) and use performance-based assessments (such as continuous performance tasks) to measure attention and impulsivity, which can be useful for initial assessment or assessing medication response.
A holistic understanding is gained through interviews with the client and, when appropriate, collateral information from parents of minors, school staff, or other involved professionals. I have training in comprehensive assessment, which allows for the detailed understanding and critical evaluation of external neuropsychological and psychoeducational reports. This external data is seamlessly integrated into your treatment planning.
My focus is on understanding the underlying problems and client needs, rather than strictly on a diagnostic label.
I provide differential diagnosis assessment for many psychiatric conditions, including ADHD, depression, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders. I do not provide formal diagnostic assessments for Autism, intellectual disability, or learning disabilities. If symptoms of these problems are present and diagnostic clarification is desired or indicated, I provide referrals to trusted psychologists who specialize in comprehensive testing and neuropsychological assessment.
